Trying to be Green!
May 1, 2008

Earth day has come and gone.
How can I make myself more Green? The thing is I have always been the type of person to toss my garbage into the proper trash bins. I believe in the conservation of our environment. Over the past 15 years I have always made it a point to find places to properly recycle my old electronics. Always reaching out to the local township. Trying to find locations where I could drop off such equipment.
“It is ok to turn off you computers!”
I own several computers (iMac, Powerbook, Asus PC along with External Hard drives). I always tend to leave my main computer running 24/7. So I decided to make a promise to myself. To turn off my computer when I am not using it. Those of you who are reading this message I can assure you. My iPhone has Instant Messenger and I am ready to use it!
To be honest with everyone reading this, I am not sure how long I can last! There are times I just want to have a presence online. Thinking about a solution to this issue I decided take a look at the Zombu or Asus EEE PC. Most of you know I have stepped away from gaming (for a bit). These two units will allow me to surf the internet, check e-mail, instant message, Tweet, Skype, and Youtube! I am not editing or compressing video everyday! To be honest I do not think anyone needs a powerhouse computer these days.
Don’t get me wrong (I am a Ustreamer and use Camtwist) on a regular basis. I do tend to compress video files and record audio. But this isn’t done every single day of the week. I am going to give one of these two units a try. Low power computing is the way to go. Lets hope I am not wrong!
I was also thinking of a way to eliminate all of my external Hard Disk. They say all of your information is going to be stored entirely on the internet someday. If I were to put my external hard disk into storage (just to eliminate the need to have them plugged into a constant power source.) All of my data could be uploaded to an online storage service. This would definitely reduce the amount of power I consume. It may be an initial inconvenience (uploading the data.)
Once up on the internet at a data center. All of my data would be easily accessible from anywhere. Eliminating the need to have multiple hard disk plugged in consuming power and wasting money!
