Habitual Twitter Complainers - Are You One of Them?

June 8, 2008

Have you seen these tweets on Twitter:
“Gawd!! Twitter Sux!”
“Down again - wow, amazing!
“Thanks for ruining my life!”
“Twitter = Epic Fail”
“Why can’t Twitter get their sh%t together?”

I have seen it many times. Heck, I have even been “that guy”. Have you ever been a Twitter complainer? Come on, dig down deep and be honest with yourself! I refuse to complain any longer because I don’t want to be labeled a “Twitterplainer”.

Nobody likes Twitter downtime, especially when you become dependent on a tool for communications or marketing. However, Twitter users must take into account that this is a FREE service. Taking that into consideration, I feel that users do not have the right to complain, especially when there are other alternatives out there, such as: Jaiku, Pownce, and Plurk. These micro-blogging platforms can be used to accomplish the same tasks, as Twitter.

However, one problem exists that will perpetuate the population of “Twitterplainers”. Most of the micro-blogging audience uses Twitter - about a million users at last count. This means that if you can’t handle anymore downtime with Twitter and want to jump ship to another service, your friends may not follow suit. They might stay with Twitter, because they are loyal to the platform or begin working with a different micro-blogging service. What does that mean? That means a reduction in communications or enduring the annoying task of belonging to all micro-blogging networks to make sure you are communicating with your friends/audience (not something I want to do).

Therefore, most users will continue to complain and remain a Twitter user. Please do everyone a favor and stop whining. We all know that it sucks when Twitter goes down, but most of us stay because we love the simplicity of the service and our core group of friends and followers are there, as well. Chances are it will go down tomorrow during Steve Job’s announcement of the 2nd generation iphone. Take a deep breath. It will be ok. Save your complaining for something that is worth whining about, like going to the DMV. Now that is something to gripe about.

What do you think? Are you tired of reading Twitter complaints? Leave me a comment. Tell me what you think is worth complaining about…

Very well spoken my friend! and thnx to Dano for the link.
I am also gettin annoyed by people who try to drag other people over to
Jaiku, Pownce, and Plurk. Just stick to twitter and be patient. It will get better
eventually. the “hardcore twitters” will remain and all the others who are following the hype will move on…

    greets Mike-Linux-NL

I agree. The problem is that there is no where else to go (at least at the moment) that (a. had the same “feel” (b. has the same audience. So people will continue to complain and not budge. However, it makes for good blog posts and that is why people are still complaining/blogging about Twitter. Traditional media does this all the time with celebrities for example so it’s really nothing new, just recycled.
