Get Green and Show Some Love to Mother Earth

It’s Time To Get Green - Join The Revolution To Save Our Planet

We can’t deny it any longer. The polar icecaps are melting. The polar bear’s days are numbered. The trees of our rain forests are being chopped down at an alarming rate. Our precious and magnificent wildlife are being run out of their homes by the actions of mankind. Our roadways worldwide are clogged with automobiles and motorcycles. Our government is making decisions for us without our input. Oil companies are making trillion dollar profits, yet they can’t seem to be bothered to update our old refineries that are spewing contaminants into our air - you know, the stuff that we need to breathe. Dirty air for everyone, yaaay! Gas prices are soaring across our nation. Al Gore is sticking to his guns in regards to the state of our environment - some believe, some don’t. Corporations are looking at the bottom line, concerned not with the impact of their decisions on the environment, but rather on the profit lines. Worldwide people are plagued with different cancers - anyone consider the food we eat? Here in the U.S.A., we are a Nation that is killing itself, with other Nations following suit. We are a world that is at war. Oh yeah, let’s not forget that huge hole in our ozone layer that is causing temperatures to rise rapidly and change our climate. Frogs are hopping around with 3 eyes and 6 legs - when the frogs are messed up, we got problems people. Why aren’t the bees producing honey? Where are the bees? Our landfills are being pushed to their limits. Why? Because of our laziness. Its easier to throw away that box of cereal in the trash, rather than separate the plastic bag liner from the paper box and sort them for recycling. I mean, it’s just one box of cereal, right? Wrong!

It’s time to be responsible for your own actions peeps! It’s time to get green. It’s time to show love to Mother Earth. Did everyone forget that the earth is our home? Without a healthy planet, what good are tangible items? It will be difficult to enjoy that new patio furniture you just bought when its 130 degrees outside. Let’s get with the program and do something for ourselves, our nation, our world. It’s time for the healing to begin.

So, you are probably wondering, what can I do? You are probably saying, I’m just one person. Here is the list for everyone who has thought at one point, I would like to do something, but I don’t know where to start.

The Get Green List - Three Basics For Reviving Our Planet: (in no particular order)

1. The Big Bag Problem:
Stop using plastic and paper bags at your local grocery store, pharmacy, retail outlet, etc. Instead purchase re-usable post consumer recycled bags, canvas bags, hemp bags, baskets, etc. Whole Foods and Trader Joes grocery stores have led the forefront in this bag campaign. Walgreen’s Pharmacy now has environmental bags that you can purchase to do your shopping with, and I am sure there are others. What does this do? It helps reduce the waste that shows up in our landfills. By purchasing a re-usable bag, consumers like you and me can keep plastic store bags and paper bags alike, out of our landfills. Here is a novel thought: less paper bags needed = less trees cut down = more clean air for you and me = preservation of wildlife homes = balanced ecology = woot!

2. Green Computing:
We are a nation and a world consumed by technology. We use it daily to accomplish our goals. Please try and power down items that you are not using. For instance, if you have several pc’s running in your household but are only utilizing one of them 70% of the time, don’t leave the other ones on 24/7. Also, scale back the power of your pc if you do not need it for intensive programs: video editing, graphics, autocad, 3-d modeling….and well, gaming. If you are only using a pc for basic internet surfing, word processing, and that frequent game of solitaire, you probably dont need a fully maxed out DELL XPS or BLACKBIRD 002, just because it looks cool and you can afford it. Those babies pull some energy. Basically, if you don’t need it don’t get it.

3. Not Recycling Weekly or No Recycling Program:
Have a recycling program and you are not separating your trash? Shame on you - get with it! You may even think that you do not have very many recyclable items - oh, but you do.

Check out the images to get you thinking about what you can do:

Don’t have a neighborhood recycling program? Start one! Contact your neighbors and discuss the benefits of having such a program. Then contact your homeowner’s association, apartment complex, city government. Let’s get er done. Earth said she is tired of swallowing our trash. Can we help her out one time? You would be surprised how many things we throw away that can be recycled:

paper towel rolls - when you get done using all the paper towels you are rewarded with a roll - recycle it
cereal boxes - paper and plastic liner: Recycling Twofer!
microwave dinners - paper box and plastic tray: Recycling Twofer!
produce plastic bags - yep those bags that you tear off and place your pears inside
plastic fruit boxes/trays - strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, fruit trays for parties
plastic shopping bags
paper shopping bags
plastic bottles - HUGE!! One of the largest landfill residents)
gift wrapping paper - after birthday parties, etc. gather all the torn papers and recycle them
retail paper boxes - software, digital cameras, laundry detergent, cat litter, etc.)
retail box components - plastic baggies, packaging
retail plastic blister packaging - so easy to recycle this! Recycling Twofer!
shoe boxes
cd cases - paper liner and plastic
cd’s - yes there are cd recycling programs out there
bakery boxes - those muffins were delicious. now take the box and the plastic bag - separate and recycle
junk mail - HUGE!! Another landfill hog - shred this junk and send out to be recycled
battery packaging - paper and plastic: Recycling Twofer!
clothes hangers - bundle up these closet hogs and take them to your local dry cleaners. Recycled!

There are so many more things you can recycle in your household. Just look around for paper, card-board, plastic, etc.

Just take a look in your trash and you will be alarmed, when you begin see just how much we cram into our landfills. I was really amazed when I noticed my first Recycling Twofer (microwave dinner) I washed out the plastic tray and flattened the box - BINGO!!

Let’s save the resources that we have left. Recycle!! Start sorting through your trash and see how many Recycling Twofers you can find! It’s fun to do. What could be better. Spread the recycling gospel - it is addictive and you will feel really cool.

Internet surfing restrictions!! CAPS!! Time Warner!!

June 4, 2008

The time of unlimited internet has come to an end! I suppose we have reached the invisible barrier! Today ars technica reports that Time Warrners 40GB for $55 per month cap has arrived.

Lets lay out all the pricing plans first before I comment!!

Lowest: 768kbps with a 5GB cap for $29.95 per month.
High: 15mbps with a 40GB cap for $54.90 per month.

Consumers will pay an overage charge if they exceed there monthly allowed bandwidth!

Now here is my rant!!

This is so counter productive. It holds back in the advance of technology! Time Warner provides you a service with this extremely poor business model. This sounds like AOL to me back in the dial up days and we all remember what happened with AOL and TIme Warner. I feel sorry for anyone who is in a Time Warner coverage area! My advice is to switch to FIOS or DSL if available in your area!

Do you want to watch the bandwidth meter? I am going to say it again!! This is an extremely poor business model! Dreamed up by some corporate hog worried about the numbers!

Here is a tip Time Warner. Provide a solid and reliable service with great customer support! Decent prices and reliable upload and download speeds. Make your consumers love you for your service! Not for putting restrictions on their service! Booooooooooooooo
