Carrotmob: Making It Rain on Businesses Who Reduce Their Carbon Footprint

We are a nation of consumers. We are living in a world that is spinning out of control on many different levels, especially when it comes to our environment. Big business, too concerned with the bottom line, is driven by money, power, market share and profits at any cost. Washington, on the other hand, is caught up in red-tape and is short-stopped by lobbyist on capitol hill. Fade-in Carrotmob: a team of savvy, environmentally conscious consumers that reward businesses that agree to donate a negotiated percentage of their sales towards making environmental upgrades.

Carrotmob teams will form a cooperative purchasing effort, where consumers will go in as a group and make massive purchases. The company wins by making a large profit, the focused consumers win because they get their desired products, and the environment wins because a carbon footprint is being reduced in size due to environmental upgrades: (i.e. solar power, better cooling systems, reduced emissions, etc.) Carrotmob makes a good point - we are the economy, and we can control what happens when/if we focus our purchasing powers to benefit businesses that desire to make a change. Environmental programs, like Carrotmob, will make offers that big business can’t refuse. Harness the power of the casual consumer and we can get corporations to do what we want them to do. Positive cooperation: the consumer wins, the cooperative corporations win, and most importantly the environment wins.
